The Vancouver Canucks have recalled forward Darren Archibald from the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League (AHL).

With rookie Elias Pettersson still recovering from a concussion sustained over a week ago, the Canucks technically have a roster spot open for Archibald without having to demote anyone, but the speculation is that forward Markus Granlund may also be dealing with an injury.

There’s also the possibility that the Canucks elected to call up Archibald in order to scratch a forward like Tim Schaller, Antoine Roussel or… one can hope… Loui Eriksson. There's also the possibility that rookie Adam Gaudette receives a demotion back to the AHL at some point today.

Read below for the official press announcement of the minor transaction:

Vancouver, BC - Vancouver Canucks General Manager Jim Benning announced today that the club has recalled forward Darren Archibald from the Utica Comets.
Archibald, 28, currently ranks second on the Comets in goals (4) and power-play goals (2) and fourth in points (6). The 6-3, 206-pound forward split the 2017.18 season between the Vancouver Canucks and Utica Comets, registering nine points (4-5-9) in 27 games with Vancouver and 16 points (7-9-16) in 25 games with Utica.
Archibald has appeared in 43 career NHL games, collecting 12 points (5-7-12) and 14 penalty minutes.
