Breaking: Jets sign Maurice to a long-term deal

The Winnipeg Jets have officially announced that they’ve come to terms with head coach Paul Maurice on a multi-year contract. Terms of the new deal, including its duration have not yet been released or leaked to the public, but it’s expected that Maurice’s new deal will at least take him through the 2020-21 season.

The 50-year-old Maurice was hired by the Jets in 2014 and has put up a 136-112-33 record in 281 games with the franchise. While Maurice has had stints of success with the Jets, he has only managed to lead the team into the postseason once, losing in the first round of the 2014-15 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Fan reaction to the news has been mixed. While some fans are welcoming to a few more seasons under Maurice, others have been scathing in their criticism. Many Jets fans feel that Maurice has been a big part of the reason that the team has failed to take the next step, despite boasting some of the league’s best offensive talent.
