Breaking: John Tortorella will not be behind the bench tonight or at the All-Star Game.

This seems like pretty bad news if only because you know it has to be something serious to get head coach John Tortorella to step away from his duties as a coach in the National Hockey League.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that Tortorella will not only miss tonight's game against the Nashville Predators in Nashville as well as the 2017 NHL All-Star Game in Los Angeles. Tortorella released the following statement via the team's official website.

"Regrettably, there is a personal matter that requires my immediate attention that will force me to leave the team temporarily and miss the All-Star Game in Los Angeles," Tortorella said. "This decision was not made lightly as representing the Columbus Blue Jackets is something I am very proud of, but it is the right decision for my family and I. I appreciate the support of our organization and the National Hockey League and my hope is to be back with the team next week."

The Blue Jackets have described the situation as a "family emergency" and for Tortorella's sake and the sake of the entire Tortorella family we hope that it turns out to be something relatively benign.
