Veteran defenseman Chris Lee is about to FINALLY get his shot at an NHL contract. The 37-year-old has played pro hockey almost everywhere from Fort Myers, Florida to Magnitogorsk, Russia with stops in the AHL, ECHL, SEL, DEL and, of course, KHL. Now, the breakout star of this past spring’s World Hockey Championships can add another league to his playing resume, the NHL, if all goes right during his upcoming training camp try-out with the Los Angeles Kings.

According to Kings insider John Hoven, Lee will attend Kings camp in the fall in the hopes of finally landing his elusive NHL contract:

Lee led the KHL in scoring amongst defensemen last season with an incredible 51 assists and 65 points in just 60 games. He also had 20 points in 18 playoff games, leading Magnitogorsk to the Gagarin Cup Final before falling to SKA Saint Petersburg. The slick skating defender would then receive an emergency call-up from Team Canada who were in Paris, France competing in the 2017 IIHF World Hockey Championships. Lee stepped in to replace an injured Tyson Barrie and showed no signs of struggle. Lee elevated his play along with his teammates and really made a case for himself to play in the NHL at the highest level.

We’re pulling for you, Chris! Your rags to riches story isn’t one that we get to see often in pro sports these days, so you can bet that we’ll all be cheering for you to make the Kings!
