The Chicago Blackhawks have been watching one of their prized assets blossom into a star in the Kontinental Hockey League, but unfortunately for the Blackhawks organization it sounds like he has very little interest in signing with the team that drafted him.

Shuni Babaev, the agent for 24-year-old winger Maxim Shalunov told Scott Powers of the Athletic that his agent was almost certainly not signing with Chicago in the offseason.

“There’s a 10 percent chance [of signing with the Blackhawks in the near future],” Babaev said in a phone interview with Powers on Friday.

Babaev and his client believe that there isn't nearly enough opportunity on Chicago's roster for his client to play top-six minutes, and for that reason there is very little incentive to come to North America.

It sounds clear that Shalunov has no intention of signing with the Blackhawks, and one has to wonder if a time comes when Chicago trades away his rights to get a return on their investment at the 2011 draft.

Shalunov has 19 goals and 16 assists in just 48 KHL games this season.
