BREAKING : Kings about to hire coach replacement.
Keystone press agency

Following a shortened season, the Kings upper management decided to clean the place and fire coach Darryl Sutter. Many think it was not the best idea, since Sutter has the reputation of being one of the best in the business. He was fired nevertheless and a valid replacement needs to be found before long.

According to NHL inside Pierre LeBrun, it seems the process is pretty much over already.

John Stevens is no rookie. He was the Associate coach for the Kings for the last 3 seasons and served as assistant coach the previous 4 seasons. He took part in the 2011-2012 Cup conquest, serving 4 games as head coach in the season. Moreover, he was head coach in Philadelphia from 2006-2007 until 2009-2010, reaching the third round of the Playoffs once.

On top of that, he's played 53 games in the NHL as a player and played professional hockey from 1984 to 1999 with various teams in the AHL.

It wouldn't be surprising to see him take the Kings' command, as he was molded by Sutter for that very purpose. However, it will be interesting to see if the players will feel Stevens brings enough change to make greatness happen.
