Last Wednesday Los Angeles Kings center Jeff Carter sustained a serious injury during his team's 5-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens when his leg was cut by the skate of Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry. Carter was ruled out indefinitely after it was revealed he would need surgery to repair the damage, but on Monday we received a devastating update on just how long "indefinitely" might be.

Kings' assistant general manager Mike Futa was a guest on Sportsnet's Hockey Central at Noon, and during that interview segment he shared more information than the public had been privy to regarding Carter's recovery process.

"It's not a minor injury," said Futa.

"It's gonna be a long term injury it's not something in the four to six week area, it's gonna be measured on a month to month basis."

Futa said that the King's would be viewing Carter's return as a boost to the team much in the way of a "trade deadline acquisition," leading to a belief that the Kings may be projecting that Cater could be out until late in February or even March.

Needless to say a forward the quality of Carter being out for what would be the vast majority of the regular season is a devastating blow to the Kings.
