Breaking: Kris Letang has been suspended by the NHL.
Keystone Press.

The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has announced that Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang will be suspended, and you can bet the Washington Capitals won't be happy about this one.

Letang has received a one game suspension from the NHL, after he went up high on Washington Capitals forward Marcus Johansson as he was skating the puck up the ice, a hit that left Johansson down in a heap on the ice. Letang left his skates prior to make contact, and given the NHL's stance on head injuries as of late the suspension comes as no surprise.

The anger from Washington will come in the disparity of punishment between the three games Washington defenseman Brooks Orpik received for his own high hit, and the one game Letang received today. Head coach Barry Trotz called out the NHL for preferential treatment towards the Penguins following the Orpik decision, and this will likely only add more fuel to that fire, whether justified or not.
