Breaking: Laurent Brossoit clears waivers and is assigned to the AHL
Keystone Press

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Laurent Brossoit has been sent down to the Bakersfield Condors, the team announced on Sunday. Brossoit was placed on waivers on Saturday, and now that he has cleared he will report to the Oilers farm team in the AHL. This move was necessary after the Oilers acquired goaltender Al Montoya via trade from the Montreal Canadiens earlier this week.

Brossoit, 24, was drafted 164th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2011. He was acquired via trade by the Oilers in a deal that sent defenseman Ladislav Smid to the Flames in 2013. He started 27 games in the NHL so far, registering a record of 7-13-2 with a goal-against average of 2.96 and a .899 save percentage. This season, the Port Alberni, British-Columbia native started 13 games, posting a 3-7-1 record with a 3.22 goal-against average and a .886 save percentage.

Oilers management team felt that he needed to see action on a more regular basis, giving the fact the he is still young and that Cam Talbot should get a lot of starts until the end of the season, as the Oilers will do everything they can to turn their season around and to qualify for the playoffs.

The Oilers are currently sixth in the Pacific division with a record of 18-21-3. They are facing the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday afternoon and were loosing 3-1 after the second period.
