That’s two brutal injuries announced in the past 24 hours. Ouch.

In case you missed it, Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Travis Dermott went down HARD after taking a big hit from Edmonton Oilers forward Brad Malone last night and did NOT return to action.

Here’s the play in question:

It’s clear that Dermott injures either his shoulder or his wrist on the play and, as a result, he’ll be out of the team’s lineup for awhile. Leafs head coach Mike Babcock confirmed after the Leafs’ big 6-2 win that Dermott will join fellow blue liner Jake Gardiner on the injured reserve.

This afternoon Leafs insider Kristen Shilton confirmed that Dermott will be out of the lineup for “at least four weeks” with the injury. Ouch.

As a result, Martin Marincin has been called up from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
