BREAKING: Leafs playoff hero leaves AHL game after taking BRUTAL hit to the head
Keystone Press

Just because the Toronto Maple Leafs postseason is over, it doesn’t mean that the young Leafs players are done with playoff hockey. In fact, several Leafs are currently with the team’s AHL affiliate the Toronto Marlies in a playoff series against the Albany Devils. One of those promising young players, Kasperi Kapanen, was forced out of tonight’s contest after spectacularly crashing into the Devils’ goal on a scoring attempt.

Kapanen appeared to hit his head on the play and, as a result, will be monitored for concussion like symptoms before he’s cleared to return to the Marlies lineup.

While Kapanen may have been lost in the crowd of the Leaf’s fantastic rookie crop, the the 20 year old Finn electrified all of Toronto when he buried an overtime game winner in the Leafs’ first round playoff series against the Washington Capitals. He’s a promising young player to be sure, as evidenced by his 18 goals and 43 points in 43 games with the Marlies during the regular season.

The Marles have not yet announced the extent of Kapanen’s injury or given an estimate for his return to the lineup, but with such a varied offensive skill set, his teammates are hoping he’s back sooner rather than later.
