Hockey USA announced yesterday that Toronto Maple Leafs goaltending prospect Joseph Woll has been named to the team’s preliminary roster for the upcoming 2018 Wolrd Junior Championships in Buffalo, NY.

Leafs fans may remember that Woll captured gold for USA in last year’s edition of the annual tournament in a  backup role to starter Tyler Parsons. This year Woll is expected to compete for the top spot along with Jake Oettinger.

Many analysts believe that Woll has the inside track on the starting position and, barring any setbacks, will be the starter when USA opens up its tournament on December 26th. In 14 games with Boston College this season, Woll has seven wins, a 2.70 GAA and a .905 save percentage. The former 3rd round pick (66th overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft looks poised to take his game to the next level on the international stage.
