The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Wednesday that the team has recalled forward Trevor Moore  from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis.

The Leafs face the Washington Capitals tonight in their last contest before the All-Star break.

Andreas Johnsson suffered a concussion  in Sunday night’s loss to the  Arizona Coyotes as he fell awkwardly into the boards late in the second period. While he skated off on his own, and did not return to the game. This explains why Moore has been called up.

The 23-year-old has been the Maple Leafs go-to call-up recently with the injury to veteran Tyler Ennis . In six NHL games this year, Moore has managed to tally one goal and three points.

Moore is expected to slot in on the fourth line alongside  Par Lindholm  and  Frederik Gauthier while winger Connor Brown could move up.

On Tuesday, GM Kyle Dubas mentioned he felt as though there were several prospects that were ready to be called up from the Leafs’ affiliate and he believes they can make an immediate impact in the NHL.

“Up front, the job that [coach] Sheldon [Keefe], in combination with Scott Pellerin, have done with group,” said Dubas, “I think there’s four, five or six forwards that we’d be confident in calling up right now and knowing they can fill in, much in the way that Moore did.”

It remains to be seen if blue liner Jake Gardiner will be in uniform tonight after he was out Sunday’s game against the Coyotes with back spasms. He also missed practice on Monday. The team did not practice on Tuesday.

We will know more ahead of the game.
