When goaltender Frederik Andersen was injured during his preparation for the World Cup of Hockey tournament Leaf fans feared the worse, and when the Leafs' announced that they were bringing him back to Toronto for evaluation you knew it was going to be bad news.

On Monday the organization confirmed that it was in fact bad news, with general manager Lou Lamoriello stating that Andersen would need a three to four week period in order to recover from his injury.

This has two major negatives for Toronto, the first being that Andersen, a relatively young and relatively inexperienced number one goaltender, will not get the opportunity to hone his skills against the best of the best at the World Cup of Hockey.

The second and most obvious negative here is the fact that Andersen will clearly be limited in his preparation for the regular season, and while he almost certainly will be ready come game time, it will likely be in far more limited form than he would have been without this freak injury.

If you missed the injury itself you can still see a short clip of it in our original report on this story.
