Timothy Liljegren is officially a Leaf

Toronto Maple Leafs public relations made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon, signalling that the 18-year-old Swedish defenseman had signed his entry-level contract.

Toronto's first round draft pick(17th overall) in the 2017 National Hockey League Entry Draft spent the last two seasons of his professional hockey career playing in the premier hockey league in Sweden, the Swedish Hockey League, for Rogle BK. Over 38 games he produced 2 goals and 8 assists for 10 total points.

It's believed that Liljegren's stock in the draft was damaged by the bad case of mononucleosis he contracted early last season, an illness that forced him to miss several months of playing time.

That being said, at just 18 years of age it may be some time before he gets a shot at the Leafs NHL roster.
