The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenseman Andreas Borgman to a one-year, two-way contract extension on Wednesday that will pay him an NHL salary of $700,000 next season.

Borgman, who spent the entire season with the AHL’s Toronto Marlies and tallied four goals and 15 points in 39 games so far, appeared in 48 games with the Maple Leafs last season, posting three goals and 11 points. He was instrumental in leading the Marlies to a Calder Cup championship, putting up four goals and five assists in 25 games with the Marlies last season.

According to TSN and Cap Friendly, he becomes the fourth pending restricted free agent the Maple Leafs have extended for a cap hit below $800,000 this season, joining Trevor Moore ($775,000 for two seasons), Calle Rosen ($750,000 for two seasons) and Garret Sparks, who was signed Tuesday to a one-year, $750,000 deal. The team signed centre Auston Matthews to a five-year, $58.17 million extension last month.

The Maple Leafs still have a lot to do on the free agent market once the season comes to an end. Toronto has five restricted free agents remaining on their current 23-man roster - Mitch Marner, Kasperi Kapanen, Andreas Johnsson, Nicolas Petan and Igor Ozhiganov.
