The Toronto Maple Leafs have been without superstar forward Auston Matthews for two consecutive games now and while the  team has performed well in his absence, there is now a growing concern regarding his injury.

Unfortunately following Friday night's victory over the Boston Bruins, the Toronto Maple Leafs have officially confirmed that Matthews will now miss a third consecutive game, the third of his career, when the Leafs play the second game of a back to back against the Bruins.

While it certainly is a concern it may also just be a case of the Leafs taking all precautions with their young star. The team will have a huge four-day break after Saturday's game against Boston which should give Matthews plenty of time to bounce back should the injury be minor.

James Mirtle of The Athletic has also confirmed that goaltender Curtis McElhinney will be starting for the Leafs in net Saturday night.
