Breaking: Leafs veteran has demanded a trade.
Keystone Press

A big report out of Toronto today.

While he certainly chose his words carefully, and did his best not to rock the boat in the process, there is no mistaking the fact that Toronto Maple Leafs veteran forward Brooks Laich has demanded that the Maple Leafs trade him to a contending team.

"My focus is still in this organization and playing for the Maple Leafs,"said Laich as per Joshua Kloke of The Athletic. "The decision is up to them, but if they don't see me in their plans going forward towards the playoffs then I would like the opportunity to chase a Stanley Cup with another organization."

Since being acquired by the Leafs, from the Washington Capitals in a trade for forward Daniel Winnik. Laich has only appeared in 21 games for Toronto, and none this season. It's clear he wants a chance to win the cup and it will be interesting to see if his performance in the American Hockey League this year convinces any teams to take a gamble on him.

In 21 games with the Marlies Laich has one goal, five assists and a plus minus rating of +4.
