Breaking: Major trade rumor after player is scratched ahead of tonight's game.

Oh boy it sounds like trade season in the National Hockey League is finally officially under way as rumors are absolutely flying left and right following the big Dion Phaneuf trade earlier today.

The latest, and it's a big one, comes from Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports, who is reporting that Edmonton Oilers' right handed defernseman Justin Schultz has been scratched ahead of tonight's game against the New Jersey Devils, and that it may be related to a potential trade involving him.

As many of our fans will know, Schultz's name has been mentioned in trade rumors several times this season, and it's become clear his time in Edmonton is drawing to a close. However a right handed shot on defense is still something with a lot of value in the NHL and perhaps today's trade has put a little more pressure on general managers looking to add prior to the deadline.

Lavoie has not yet commented on who could be involved in any potential deal for Schultz.
