After reading about the gruesome of Erik Karlsson's surgery, many fans didm't think it was possible for the Ottawa Senators captain to be back to the team's season opener on Thursday.

Karlsson underwent surgery to his left foot back in June, following the team’s game 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2017 NHL playoffs. The recovery time was expected to be about 4 months, hopefully giving him enough time to recover for puck drop of the regular season in October.

Today, Sens GM Pierre Dorion revealed fantastic news that Karlsson could be in the lineup for the first game of the season.

The 2016-17 Norris Trophy nominee posted 17 goals and 54 assists last season, good for 71 points. Hopefully that ankle won’t keep him out of too many regular season games.

How excited are you Sens fans?
