Breaking: Malkin out with an upper-body injury!

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan has just announced that forward Evgeni Malkin is day-to-day with an upper-body injury and will not play Friday night against the Ottawa Senators, or over the weekend for that matter.

Coach Sullivan on Malkin: “Right now he’s day-to-day with an upper-body injury. He will not play tonight or this weekend. We are hopeful that this is a short-term thing and he’ll be back in our lineup soon.”

“We are hopeful that this is a short-term thing and he’ll be back in our lineup soon,” Sullivan commented.

The Penguins are playing back-to-back contests as they will be back in action to take on Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.

Malkin has tallied 14 goals for a total of 55 points in 50 games so far this season.

The Penguins made a splash earlier on Friday when they acquired centres Nick Bjugstad and Jared McCann from the Florida Panthers for Brassard and Riley Sheahan, along with a 2019 second-round pick and two fourth-round picks in June.

Both players are “en route” and expected to be in the lineup.

Coach Sullivan mentioned that Bjugstad and McCann are currently en route to PPG Paints Arena. He is hopeful that they will play in tonight’s game.
