Lou Lamoriello spoke captaincy on Wednesday.

Although their season ended a bit earlier than many hoped, the Maple Leafs completed a gigantic turnaround this year. From a lukewarm, middle of the pack organization, the Leafs are now considered as an emerging Cup pretender.

Auston Matthews had a tremendous year. A year that could earn him the MVP award actually. Like McDavid, Matthews pulled a team from the depths of the NHL standings and landed them in the postseason.

Many arguments that could lead the fans to believe he will be named captain as soon as next season.

Wait. Not that fast. Maple Leafs GM Lou Lamoriello spoke captaincy on Wednesday with TSN’s Pierre LeBrun. During his conversation with Pierre LeBrun, Maple Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello suggests that Toronto may go another season without naming a captain.

Right now, that isn’t something in the forefront. I think we’ve had tremendous leadership this year with a lot of young players and I don’t think that right now it’s something (as I said) is on the forefront,” said Lamoriello.

Why wait another year if it’s almost sure it’ll be Auston Matthews?
