Breaking: Maple Leafs lose key player for a long period of time.

The Toronto Maple Leafs learned a bad news this morning.

Star forward James van Riemsdyk will likely miss 6 to 8 weeks with a fractured foot. His injury marks the real first injury the Leafs will have to face this season for a player. Toronto dealt with James Reimer's injury.

The organization has also announced that Josh Leivo has been recalled from the AHL's Toronto Marlies.

The American-born star winger was Toronto's player with the most points with 29 in 40 games and second amongst team for goals with 14. Van Riemsdyk was excelling under Mike Babcock's guidance and system after having difficult season in Toronto for the past couple of years.

He will likely miss 17 of Toronto's last 42 games.
