Breaking: Maple Leafs sign 19-year-old forward to first NHL contract.

The Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans got an up close and personal look at their first overall pick in 2016, Auston Matthews, but there has been another young forward waiting in the wings that fans have been excited about.

On Friday the Maple Leafs announced that they had officially come to terms with their second round pick in that very same draft, 19-year-old Swedish winger Carl Grundstrom to an entry-level contract.

Grundstrom most recently played with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Hockey League and recorded 14 goals and 6 assists for 20 points in his 45 games this season.

It's unclear if the Leafs intend to give him a shot at the main roster next season or if he will report to the American Hockey League with the Marlies.
