Breaking: Maple Leafs sign young forward to contract extension.

The Toronto Maple Leafs took care of some relatively minor business on Friday, but business that will potentially avoid some headaches in the near future.

The Leafs have officially announced the signing of a one-year contract extension with 24-year-old forward Josh Leivo thus avoiding Leivo's upcoming unrestricted free-agency, at least for one more season.

Leivo has only appeared in 5 games for the Maple Leafs this season but it's clear that they feel the value he brings as depth on their roster is of value if they want to secure his services for at least one more year.

The Leafs also won't be giving up a great deal of cap space on this deal, Leivo was earning $612,500 per season on his previous contract and will receive a slight raise to $925,000 on his new deal.
