It looks like the Toronto Maple Leafs have made it happen.

According to TSN Hockey insider Darren Dreger, Mitch Marner has agreed to a new contract extension with the Leafs. Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet confirms that the deal is done.

The insider reports that, while nothing has been made official by the team, it appears that both parties have agreed to a six-year term. Dreger adds that he will get an annual salary just shy of $11 million. Friedman reveals it is worth $10.893M AAV.

He lands the NHL's seventh-highest AAV and third-highest on his own team, per Chris Johnston

The Maple Leafs were said to prefer a long-term contract and Marner’s camp was said to be looking at two- or three-year deal with an average annual value (AAV) in the neighbourhood of $11 million to $11.5 million.

It seems like the Leafs had some convincing arguments for the young forward.

As David Alter notes the combined cap hit of John Tavares, Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner is $40.489366 million. The salary cap for this year is $81.5 million. Wow.

Here is the contract structure:

The 22-year-old had a breakout season last year, registering 26 goals and 68 assists for 94 points in 82 games with the Leafs.

Many believe once this deal is hammered out, it could help speed up the process for other players around the NHL.
