The Montreal Canadiens announced this morning that Victor Mete will be loaned to Team Canada in anticipation of this year's World Junior Hockey Championships.

"We've made the decision to allow Victor Mete to join Team Canada's Selection Camp to give him an opportunity to participate in a very beneficial experience for his development," Marc Bergevin said in a press release. "The World Junior Hockey Championship is a very elite and very competitive tournament, and this can be a very rewarding opportunity for a young player."

According to one reporter, Mete's spot is guaranteed.

Mete will drive the team's power play. It'll be interesting to see if he returns to the Canadiens following the tournament. The team has a lot of depth at D, especially with everyone healthy, and they may decide to let him finish the year for the London Knights. He's had his ice time reduced severely over the last month, so it's unclear what Claude Julien and Marc Bergevin have in store for the rookie defenseman.
