Breaking: Mike Smith returns to action!

The Calgary Flames (unsurprisingly) saw a welcome body hit the ice in practice this morning.

Jon Gillies had been playing in Smith's absence, and didn't fare too well before being sent back down to the AHL.

Gillies played one game - against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night. That game was famous for the end-of-period line brawl. The game ended 8-2 in the Red Wings' favour - Gillies definitely didn't look good in the 2nd NHL start of his career.

Smith has been stellar for the Flames since being acquired from the Arizona Coyotes. He has a 9-6-0 record with a 2.62 GAA and 0.921 save percentage.

He will likely get the nod against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
