The NHL has reviewed one surprising incident which took place on Monday night between the Washington Capitals and the Anaheim Ducks.

Capitals forward Garnet Hathaway had a hearing with the NHL Wednesday morning for a spitting incident in Monday’s game against the Ducks and has been suspended three games for his actions.

Hathaway spat on Erik Gudbranson and was thrown out of the game. The two were in the middle of a larger brawl in the second period when the Caps player made the incident worse.

After the contest, Hathaway said he regretted the loogie, but will still miss the next three games for his poor decision.

“I regret doing it,” Hathaway said.“I didn’t have any arms free and made an emotional decision that I wish I didn’t, but right now I am trying to move on from it and there is nothing that I can do but apologize.”

The Capitals will have to consider a roster move with losing Hathaway to a suspension. The team is right up against the $81.5 million salary cap ceiling and has the minimum of 18 healthy skaters on the roster and will have to make some smarts changes to the lineup.
