One of the best defensemen in the league forced to retire?

One of the big concerns for the fans in Pittsburgh has been the health of star defenseman Kris Letang. On top of being widely regarded as the team’s best defenseman Letang is a huge part of how the Penguins transition of out of their own zone, an ability that they will need if they hope to push through a what is shaping up to be a tough playoff bracket.

New information leaked on Montreal Sports Radio 91,9, reveals that Kris Letang’s NHL career may be in jeopardy. Letang has been ruled out for a playoff return for a while now and according to the information Michel Langevin’s received, Letang could be forced to retire.

According to Langevin, even though Kris Letang’s neck surgery for a herniated disc was successful, he has a history of injury that must be addressed seriously.

How Letang suffered his last injury is unclear and the team had been vague about his status leading some to believe it was either concussion- or stroke-related. The soon-to-be-30-year-old suffered a stroke in 2014 and has missed time during his career dealing with concussion symptoms.

We all hope Langevin is wrong and Letang will be back healthy next year.
