BREAKING NEWS: Important recognition for two Flyers players!
Keystone Press

The Philadelphia Flyers have announced this morning that two of their biggest star players will suit up for Team Canada at this year’s IIHF World Hockey Championships in Paris, France and Cologne, Germany.

Flyers captain Claude Giroux and all around Flyers pugilist Wayne Simmonds will both represent Canada when games get underway in early May. The two Flyers join a team that already boasts Winnipeg Jets pivot Mark Scheifele, Buffalo’s Ryan O’Reilly and Florida Panthers defensemen Mike Matheson and Jason Demers. The team will feature a powerhouse coaching crew with Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper calling the shots alongside assistants Gerard Gallant, Dave Hakstol and Dave King.

With the NHL declining to participate in the 2018 Winter Olympics, the annual IIHF World Championships could receive an increased spotlight both from players and fans. Typically viewed as a secondary tournament to other “best on best” tournaments like the Olympics and World Cup of Hockey, look for the World Championships to rise in stock as fans clamor for any type of international hockey they can get their hands on.
