BREAKING NEWS: Leafs Star Forward Missed Morning Skate
Keystone Press

The routine Saturday morning practice was without a familiar face for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Forward Nazem Kadri didn’t take to the ice this morning, according to David Alter of The Athletic.

Toronto holds their playoff fate in their hands with a one-point lead over the Tampa Bay Lightning for the second and final wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference. The Leafs have a game in hand over the Lightning, if they win their final pair of games they’re guaranteed a spot in the post-season.

But they still need to win those two games. It’ll be a little harder to do that if Kadri is out of the lineup. The left-shooting London, Ontario native has played in all of the Leafs’ 80 games so far this season, he’s proved an invaluable part of Toronto’s offense scoring 32 goals and 29 assists for 61 points this season.

Kadri also brings some much-needed grit to the ice, a feature that could be sorely missed in the high stakes grind that this final weekend of NHL regular season action promises. Kadri has set career highs in both goals scored and in penalty minutes (93) this season.

Kadri would join recently sidelined forwards Josh LeivoEric Fehr, and Nikita Soshnikov on the day-to-day injury list if he doesn’t suit up tonight in Toronto.

The Leafs will play the first of their final two games tonight at home in Toronto against the Pittsburgh Penguins and they finish up on Sunday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. If Tampa Bay wins their final game, the Leafs will need at least two points this weekend to secure a spot in the playoffs.
