Patrice Bergeron Opens Up on Charlie McAvoy’s Play

McAvoy signed an entry-level contract with the Bruins on April 10th, less than two weeks after his Amateur-Try-Out in the AHL with the Providence Bruins. The 19-year-old played four games with Providence, and managed to put up two points and a +/- of plus-3.

It wasn’t necessarily his brief stint in the AHL that convinced Bruins management that McAvoy was ready for the NHL, although it surely helped. His amazing two seasons with Boston University went a long way to convincing Bruins brass that he was a player they needed. McAvoy had 8 goals and 43 assists for 51 points in 75 games in the NCAA with Boston University. He also had a plus/minus of plus-19.

Patrice Bergeron opened up on Charlie McAvoy’s play: “There’s not much more you can say than he was phenomenal.”
