Late season injuries force Jets to call up young AHL defenceman Nelson Nogier.

The Jets went into a Sunday match against the Minnesota Wild out of a playoff spot, but took the game from the Division leaders in spectacular fashion with three goals in the first period and a 5-4 final tally.

According to Ken Wiebe, defenceman Den Chiarot didn’t play much past the halfway mark of the third period, likely making him the Jets most recent loss to injury.

Nelson Nogier, a right-handed defenceman from Saskatoon has been called up to fill the gaps in defence. Taken by Winnipeg in the 4th round of the 2014 draft, the 20 year old has played 57 games for the Manitoba Moose this season. He has had 2 goals and 11 assists for 13 points on the season, with 33 penalty minuites.

The young d-man will be getting his first taste of the NHL, and while it is by no means a permanent call up, it is a great opportunity for Nogier to get a taste of the big league, and for coaches and fans alike to get a look at the potential future of the Jets defensive corps.

Expect to see him slotted into the lineup on Tuesday March 21st against the Philadelphia Flyers.
