Breaking: NHL announces captains for upcoming All Star Game

The voting is in! The NHL has announced this morning that the captains for next month’s NHL All Star Game in San Jose, California have been chosen.

This year’s tournament will be just like last year’s, a four team playoff of 3 on 3 hockey with the teams based on the NHL’s four divisions. Here are your captains:

Atlantic Division - Auston Matthews - Toronto Maple Leafs
Metro Division - Alex Ovechkin - Washington Capitals
Central Division - Nathan MacKinnon - Colorado Avalanche
Pacific Division - Connor McDavid - Edmonton Oilers

Hard to argue with any of those choices! All dynamic superstar talents. The only thing you could quibble with would be the inclusion of Matthews given his injuries this season. Certainly a players like Nikita Kucherov, Brayden Point or Steve Stamkos from the Tampa Bay Lightning would have been excellent choices, as well.
