Breaking: NHL defenseman announces he is forced to retie due to injury.

A National Hockey League defenseman has announced that injury has forced him to injure his career.

Long time Winnipeg Jets defenseman Grant Clitsome has announced his retirement, a retirement that has been forced upon him as a result of a lingering back injury that has severely impacted his career. The announcement was made via the Winnipeg Jets official website.

“It is with great regret, that today I announce my retirement from hockey due to a back injury,” said Clitsome. “It’s tough when something unexpected, and out of your control, suddenly ends your career. Despite the circumstances, I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dream and play in the NHL. I am also very grateful for all the great people that I have met, and all the friendships that I have made playing hockey. I would like to thank my family and friends for all of their love and support over the years. I would like to thank the Columbus Blue Jackets organization for drafting me and giving me an opportunity to start my professional career. I would also like to thank the Winnipeg Jets organization for me treating me so well from day one. It truly was a special place to play and I’m proud to retire as a Jet."

Clintsome played a total of seven seasons in the National Hockey League, and regardless of what you think of him or his team, no professional athlete should be forced into retirement this way. Clintsome ends his career with 205 games under his belt and 15 goals and 56 assists over that period.

He seems to be taking the entire thing in stride, and we wish him nothing but the best on his future endeavors.
