There is a major announcement coming down in the next two days and it sounds like now more than ever that the NHL will be moving forward with its aggressive plan to restart the NHL season.

According to a report from Elite Prospects editor J.D. Burke, an NHL executive has informed him that he believes the plan for the NHL's early June draft will be moving forward and in fact he expects the announcement to be made either tomorrow on Monday or the very next day on the Tuesday. This is an extremely significant development as it now confirms many of the rumblings that we had started to hear about on Friday when the NHL sent out a memo outlining how the early draft would work.

I have to admit I am pretty excited about how all of this is going to play out with the upcoming draft throwing a huge number of curveballs into the mix. The biggest problem of course will be figuring out how to distribute conditional picks that were traded prior to the season being suspended, conditional draft picks that may have not had the chance to play out their conditions prior to this draft taking place. The NHL has indicated that it will propose solutions to these problems but that the teams will have a chance to work it out themselves, if the teams fail to do so the NHL's decision will become final and that will be the deal put in place.

On top of that we will have huge complications for teams with players on expiring contracts given that they may still need those players to finish out their season. For example there is a world in which you feel you must keep a player for a chance at the Stanley Cup, but would have seriously considered him dealing him at the draft for a couple of picks. Well now you must choose one or the other given that the draft is going to occur before the playoffs will happen presumably.

All of that before we even get to the changes about the draft lottery format makes this a draft that no one is going to want to miss.
