A National Hockey League forward has decided to leave a shocking amount of money on the table.

Sportsnet insider Eric Engels is now reporting that Las Vegas Golden Knights forward Vadim Shipachyov has decided he will return to Russia after being unable to ever establish himself as part of the Golden Knights organization.

While the move comes as less of a surprise now after a long dispute between the two sides, Shipachyov was arguably the biggest free-agent signing the Golden Knights made this summer, and no one would have predicted their current success without him being a large contributor at this stage of the season.

The team wanted Shipachyov to report to the American Hockey League, however Shipachyov himself was so averse to that idea that he instead has chosen to mutually agree to a termination of his two-year contract with the team.

It's hard to blame Shipachyov who moved his family halfway across the world to Las Vegas, only to be then asked to go play hundreds of miles away from them, this just weeks after a massacre in a city he had just arrived to. That being said it will cost him a great deal of money.

Shipachyov signed for $9 million this summer and has already been paid a signing bonus of $2 million this season, plus whatever salary he has earned up until this point. That means he will be forfeiting the remainder of the $9 million to go back home.

We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
