The rumor mill is working overtime now that a National Hockey League general manager has been spotted personally scouting the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In a very rare appearance general manager Dean Lombardi of the Los Angeles Kings is on hand to watch the Leafs play the New York Islanders at the Air Canada Center in Toronto. Lombardi was first spotted by veteran Islanders insider Athur Staple of Newsday.

The speculation is that Lombardi is on hand to scout the Leafs, both because of his decision to physically show up to Toronto, as well as the fact that his team has been connected numerous times to rumors surrounding Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk this season.

No word yet on if Lombardi is expected to meet with Leafs general manager Lou Lamoriello this evening.
