For weeks now there have been rumors that the discussions between Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin and soon to be unrestricted free agent forward Alexander Radulov remain far apart.

On Thursday those negotiations took a whole new turn when Bergevin declared that he would consider trading Radulov should negotiations continue to go poorly. Th Habs general manager made the announcement during a scrum with the French language media in Quebec, and it seems like an obvious negotiating ploy from Bergevin.

Radulov recorded 18 goals and 36 assists in his first season as a Canadien, and considering the Habs offensive struggles his 54 points in 76 games are not something that organization can afford to lose.

Of course Bergevin could always opt to sign another free agent instead, and his recent acquisition of former Lightning forward Jonathan Drouin could make Radulov far more eexpendable than he would have been prior to that deal. Only time will tell if Bergevin does indeed make the trade, although he will likely get a minimal return given that he would only be trading Radulov's negotiating rights at this stage.

For those interested you can listen to the comments from Bergevin in the video below, although once again he made the statement while fielding questions from the French media.
