Breaking: NHL GM admits his two goalie system isn't working.

One of these two is getting traded.

The rumor mill is exploding this morning after a shocking admission from one of the National hockey League's general managers.

The Pittsburgh Penguins made the decision not to trade Marc-Andre Fleury over the summer despite the fact that there were several rumors of offers coming from other teams to acquire the veteran netminder, and now that plan may be failing. Penguins general manager Jim Rutherford had this to say:

“Despite the fact I like having the two top goalies, it’s difficult when both goalies are used to playing the majority of the games,” Rutherford said as per TSN. “You get into weeks where they’re splitting and going every other game. That hasn’t worked, at this point, as well as I thought it would.”

When asked if he had received any further inquiries this season about the availability of Fleury Rutherford refused to offer any comment, he also stated that he hadn't decided which goalie he would protect should the expansion draft arrive with both Fleury and Matt Murray still on the roster.

“I don’t feel urgency,” Rutherford said of making the decision of which goaltender to protect, though he admitted, “It is one area I’m probably looking at the most right now, as to how that works.”

I think it's pretty safe to come out and say that this is an entirely disingenuous response from Rutherford. There is no doubt both in terms of current form and where they are in their respective careers that Matt Murray is the goalie of the future, and that likely means the writing is on the wall for Fleury.

Add to the fact that Rutherford has now admitted his two-goalie system isn't working and it sounds like now the question really is when will Marc-Andre Fleury be traded, and to whom?
