Breaking: NHL GM listening to trade offers for his leading scorer.

You know things aren't going the way you had hoped when you are seriously listening to trade offers for your team's leading scorer.

While it sounds like teams are more interested in acquiring Buffalo Sabres star forward Evander Kane than the Sabres are in trading him, TSN insider Darren Dreger indicated on a recent segment of Insider Trading that Sabres general manager Jason Botterill was in fact listening to offers. However Dreger believes the trade may come later in the season.

"It's not to say that Jason Botterill isn't willing to listen on trade interest in Evander Kane, he is. but this is something that we're probably gonna spend a lot of time talking about right up to the February 26th trade deadline."

Kane is currently tied for the Sabres team lead in scoring with both Jack Eichel and Jason Pomminville so it would be a huge surprise to see the Sabres give him up at this point in the season despite their bad start.

However Dreger did state that if the Sabres get the offer they want they would indeed consider moving Kane to a rival team, although that would likely have to be a very significant offer indeed.
