Breaking: NHL goalie pulled in his first game since signing with new team.

When the Winnipeg Jets went shopping for help in net this summer it was in the hopes of avoiding situations like this.

On Wednesday night in their very first game of the season the Jets were blown out by the Toronto Maple Leafs through the first two and a half periods of the game, and a lot of the blame was placed on the shoulders of their goalie.

Signing veteran goaltender Steve Mason as a free-agent to a two-year contract may eventually work out for the Jets, but on Wednesday night it looked like it may have had the opposite effect after Mason allowed 5 goals, causing head coach Paul Maurice to pull him out of the game.

Of course this is only a one-game sample size, but it's the last thing you want to see from your big free-agent signing, especially when he is eating $4.1 million in cap space this season.

A very rough start.
