It comes one day after Christmas but this might be the best Christmas present this year for one National Hockey League head coach.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced that they have agreed to the terms of a new three contract extension with head coach Mike Sullivan, a deal that will keep him under contract until the 2019-2020 season.

General manager Jim Rutherford made a short statement regarding the signing:

"Mike did the best coaching job in the NHL last season," said the general manager as per NHL.com. "He continues to be a terrific coach and we are happy to give him a well-deserved extension."

Sullivan orchestrated a miraculous turn around for the Penguins, and has already led the team to a Stanley Cup Championship since taking over the reigns as head coach, this deal is likely to be extremely well received in Pittsburgh as a result.

While this deal was signed on boxing day, we don't believe the Penguins got off cheap here either.
