Breaking: NHL makes surprising decision on Chara's high hit that ended up in heated fight

The highlight of last night's game between the Boston Bruins and the San Jose Sharks was certainly the fight that took place between Zdeno Chara and Evander Kane.

Kane didn’t appreciate getting rammed into the boards by the giant defenseman during the third period of the contest on Tuesday night. So, he thought it’d be a good idea to drop the gloves and attack the Bruins captain from behind as he skated away.

However, Chara isn’t too old for this. The Bruins star blue liner dropped the mitts as well and once he was able to get up from Kane’s sneaky attack, he landed several rights at the back of his head.

What pushed Kane to stand up for himself was the need to punish Chara, who was not penalized for delivering what the Sharks forward called "a classic head shot." Kane immediately looked to the referee following the high hit, and went after Chara once he saw no penalty was coming.

“It was a hit right to my face, head — whatever you want to call it. Clearly,” Kane said after the game. “I get up, and look at the ref who’s watching it from the corner. He’s standing there with both arms down, and I’m absolutely stunned.
"I guess if I’m going to be officiated a different way, what am I supposed to do besides defend myself? I’m not going to sit there and take a direct shot to the head.”

However, the NHL has decided not to review the hit. Sharks insider Kevin Kurz of The Athletic and TSN's Pierre LeBrun have just revealed that Chara will not receive any supplementary discipline for his hit of Kane last night.

“I watched the replay. It looks like he elevates his shoulder into my head,” Kane said. “I know he’s a big boy. We’ve seen it throughout the league — looks the exact same to me.”

Not according to the NHL, Kane... Here's what the Sharks forward's reaction to the league's decision:
