Breaking: NHL makes surprising statement on the future of the All-Star game

National Hockey League fans know this: the All-Star game is not the most entertaining sporting event to watch. You know the countless goals, the ever-changing format and the many NHL stars refusing to go... it gets old fast but the NHL has made it clear that it is an important part of the calendar.

On Friday, in a press conference before the Ottawa Senators and Colorado Avalanche game in Sweden, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly made a surprising statement about the famous All-Star weekend.

Though Daly started off by clarifying that the All-Star is "never going to disappear", he added that a few changes could be made to when it is presented. Daly mentioned the Winter Olympics and World Cup as examples, hinting at the possibility to hosting the All-Star weekend once every few years.

The interest for such a long hockey weekend might be more popular if it occurs less often. Players might also prefer to take part in it once every few years and hence, the competition might be greater on the voting ballot and on the ice.

It doesn't look like Daly went on to explain how or when the modifications could be put into place, but fans will surely react to the rumour.

What do you think of the possible change?
