The final minute of the third period between the Calgary Flames and the San Jose Sharks was intense. The teams received 64 combined penalty minutes in the last 41 seconds of the game. Evander Kane got a 10-minute misconduct penalty at 19:19 of the third for jumping Matthew Tkachuk in a scrum below the goal line. Tkachuk and Rasmus Andersson also received misconduct penalties in the brawl.

Just 18 seconds later, Flames forward Sam Bennett delivered a late hit on Radim Simek, causing Barclay Goodrow to jump in and stick up for the Sharks rookie, who had just passed the puck to a teammate. Bennett charged at Simek and clocked him right in the head. The hit went viral, of course, as many have called it late and dirty.

“Just kind of gutless,” Pavelski said.

“Predatory. That’s it,” Sharks head coach Pete DeBoer said.

Many will point out that Bennett’s skates never left the ice and Simek’s head wasn’t the primary point of contact, however, the hit was clearly late and predatory. But not in the eyes of the NHL, it seems...

While Bennett’s hit is a picture-perfect example of what the NHL wants to eliminate from the game, the league and the Player Safety department did nothing. On Tuesday, Sharks insider Kevin Kurz of The Athletic in San Jose revealed that Bennett won’t receive any supplemental discipline for his hit on Simek.

Bennett received a match penalty -- as did Goodrow for leaping to his teammate's defense. It is believed that revenge will come from the Sharks themselves when they will face the Flames again on Feb. 7 in Calgary. Because, the Sharks are livid!

Do you believe Bennett deserved supplemental discipline?
