The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety has just made a major decision, one that could have playoff implications.

NHL Player Safety has determined that the spear from Edmonton Oilers star forward Leon Draisaitl does not warrant any additional game time, and therefore Draisaitl will not be suspended despite having a hearing with the league today.

However, they have also announced that Draisaitl will be fined the maximum amount allowed under the collective bargaining agreement, and as a result Draisaitl will be forced to forfeit $2,569.44 in salary.

While this will make any future discipline Draisaitl receives harsher as a result of the "repeat offender" status, this still has to feel like a huge win for the Oilers who have dodged a huge bullet by not losing Draisaitl for another playoff game.
