This just in, the NHL has officially unveiled its Selke Trophy nominees for the 2018-19 season. Up for the award this season are Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins, Mark Stone of the Vegas Golden Knights and Ryan O’Reilly of the St. Louis Blues.

The Frank J. Selke Trophy is awarded annually to the National Hockey League forward who demonstrates the most skill in the defensive component of the game. The winner is selected by a poll of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association following the regular season.

Last season's winner Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings did not make the grade this season. As for this year's candidates, Bergeron stands to create a new record with five Selke Trophy wins. He's currently tied with Montreal Canadiens legend Bob Gainey with four Selke Trophy wins to his credit. As for Stone and O'Reilly this represents the first time they've ever been nominated for the prestigious award.
