Breaking: NHL suspends Landeskog for brutal crosscheck to the head.

The National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety did not take long to make a decision on this play, and given the optics of it we are not at all surprised.

Last night during the Wednesday match up between the Colorado Avalancge and the Anaheim Ducks, Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog took some unforgivable liberties at the expense of Anaheim Ducks defenseman Simon Despres.

Seemingly unprovoked, Landeskog waltzed up to Despres long after he had gotten rid of the puck, and then not only delivered a very late hit, but a completely illegal one that came in the form of a crosscheck to the side of the head and neck of Despres. Despres looked like he never saw it coming, and made no move to defend himself from the impact of the blow.
